Mamma Mia! and 5 Guys
[mood|
enthralled]
[music| "Dancing Queen" - Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, & Julie Walters (Mamma Mia! the Movie Cast)]
So I JUST got back from seeing Mamma Mia! with some friends of mine. And as someone who saw the musical on Broadway, let me just say that what Hairspray was missing in terms of casting and general awesomeness, Mamma Mia! got right. =D First off, they got the original Broadway show director to direct the movie. In my opinion, if you can't get the original cast like RENT did, then at least get the original director who already has the experience of directing the show and knows what they want in terms of the look of the movie. Now, don't get me wrong, I thought that Hairspray was fantab, but the play was just so much better. XD I thought the casting done for Mamma Mia! was brilliant. I had no clue that Meryl Streep could sing, same goes with Amanda Seyfried (both of whom have fantastic voices). I already knew Christine Baranski could seen thanks to Chicago, but as was the case with Meryl and Amanda, I was pleasantly surprised with the entire cast's level of talent. Read on to hear my break-down...
At first, I was nervous about seeing the movie because I loved the play so much and I knew they took out some of the songs and added in another one written by the guys from ABBA. But like I said before, the movie was fantastic.
The whole premise is that Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is about to get married to Sky (Dominic Cooper). The play, and the movie, start the day before Sophie's wedding. Sophie lives with her mom, Donna (Meryl Streep), on a small island off the coast of the Grecian mainland. Sophie has never known who her real father is and while going through some of her mom's old stuff, she finds a diary detailing the time around Sophie's conception. Sophie reads about three possible guys (Sam Carmichael, Bill Austin (in the movie, he's Bill Anderson), and Harry Bright. Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, and Colin Firth, respectively) and decides to invite them to her wedding without Donna's knowledge. Trouble starts when all three guys arrive and as each of them starts to realize what Sophie's intentions were with inviting them.
In the end, Sophie decides to hold off getting married to Sky, feeling that, at 20, she'd rather explore the world with her fiancé, while Donna ends up marrying Sam.
The movie was fun, frivolous, and just one giant sing-along. My favourite part was the fact that, just like the play, the couples (Donna & Sam, Sophie & Sky, Rosie (Juile Walters) & Bill, and Tonya (Christine Baranski) & Harry) come out during the credits, decked out head-to-toe in full on disco gear (platform books, frills, and bell-bottom spandex pants) to sing two encores: Dancing Queen and Waterloo. Waterloo was neither in the play, nor in the movie.
Overall, I think that any one who is a fan of musicals, or just a fan of ABBA, A-Teens, or any of those types of bands should see the movie.
I think it's going on my favourites list.
Oh, and Julie Walters officially wins at life. Period. End of story. I will never look at her as Mrs. Weasley ever again.
And now, since
astoria_potter tagged me, here's my list of who I consider to be my five most attractive guys:
5) Dominic Cooper

I first saw him as Dakin in The History Boys (Absolutely amazing movie! Based on a play of the same name, they also used the original cast.), but I saw him more recently as Sky in Mamma Mia! He's charmingly British, so he's an automatic winner. In this particular image, he's the one on the left.
4) Skandar Keynes

Okay. So this is my totally illegal boy!crush. I'm pretty sure that he's younger than me, but dear God, he is fricken ADORABLE! I first saw him as Edmund Pevensie in the first Narnia flick and I thought he was cute, but I had a feeling that he was going to get a whole lot cuter as he grew up. More so than William Mosley. He has that whole aloof thing that I totally love. He's going to be the next Rupert Grint. I know it. haha.
3) Robert Pattinson

For those of you that are into Harry Potter, then you know Robert as Cedric Diggory. If you are a rabid Twilight fangirl, then you know him as Edward. Since I am of the former, I first saw Robert in GoF. Another charming Brit. I know. I have a bit of an obsession with Brits. XD
2) Hugo Sauzay

I couldn't help but post the first one because it's THAT flippin' adorable. I posted the second one so you could actually see what he looks like. Anyways, I'm rather fashion obsessed, so I know my models, in addition to knowing my designers, and he's my favourite male model. No, it's NOT Boyd Holbrook, although he is rather delicious. Hugo is French and I first saw him in the Salvatore Ferragamo ads from about two years ago.
And of course, if you know me well enough, then you know who my number 1 is...
1) Tom Felton

Truthfully, I first saw Tom not in HP, but in Anna and the King with Jodie Foster and Chow Yung Fat. Because he played Louie Leonowins, though, he didn't really play a huge part. In comparison to the musical, The King and I (which is brilliant), Louie's character is more involved with his mother's teaching the children of the King of Siam, but still; not a huge role, that and he was 11 there and I was 8, I think. I didn't really start to find him attractive, though, until PoA with his awesome hair. I'm really excited for HBP now ever since I've been seeing these new promotional shots where he looks even more like the Draco that I had initially imagined. This particular image is my fave from the ones they've released thus far.
Wow. I wrote a whole bunch today! XD
Feel free to comment with your thoughts! =D
