Thoughts, Por Favor?

[mood| sick]
[music| "Suburban Knights" - Hard-FI]

First, I hope that everyone has a very Happy New Year! Try not to party too much, but have a wonderful time feting our entrance into 2009. :D I would probably be out right now, celebrating like most of my friends are, but well, my body likes to inflict disease upon me every holiday season. Like freaking clockwork since I was a wee one, I've been sick at some point in December's holiday season. :| Normally, it's around Christmas, but this year, my body decided to mess with me and so when I woke up this morning, I discovered that I have the stomach flu. :( La-ame.

But, it has given me time to look over some of my stuff, and I discovered this little bit of fic that I had written sometime during this past semester. I don't have a title for it yet, so if anyone has ideas for one (after I tell you a bit about the plot, of course), then please feel free to hit me with them. I'm going to post what I have thus far, so thoughts on what I have will be greatly appreciated, too! :D

He chanced upon it much like the others did.

By simply wandering about the streets of Dublin; somewhat safe from the bloody awful mess he created back home.

The older man accompanying him on his Irish holiday was holed up in their cramped room, fast asleep when the younger man slipped out, tired of the tedium.

It was in the alley just outside of their room – a mere sliver of trampled brick and garbage. The most unexpected of places for finding anything worthwhile.

When most people find something they weren’t exactly looking for, they might say that they “stumbled upon it”. In his case, this phrase was quite literal.

As he dropped down from the stair ladder onto the cobbled street below, he lost his footing, slipping and tripping, falling backwards into what should have been a solid stone wall -- a wall that would have knocked the wind out of him. So when he fell right through the wall, as though he was going beyond the veil, he flailed even more, trying to grasp onto something, anything, as he made his decent into the darkness.

An obsidian, peerless darkness. One where he couldn’t see mere centimetres in front of him. Where it felt like he was slowly floating back down to the surface of the earth, light as a feather, moving through liquid silk, his eyes and hair shining like beacons in the totality of that endless night.

* * * * * * * *

Above is what I have, but it really doesn't give much in terms of what the fic will be about, so here's the basic gist:

Draco is on the run with Severus after the whole HBP debacle with Dumbledore. Finding themselves in Dublin, Draco decides to do some exploring while Severus is asleep. He literally stumbles upon a portal that leads to a dreamland. The catch with this dreamland is that every single dream becomes reality, both the good and the bad. In this dreamland, he finds Ginny, who's there due to her actually dreaming while she's asleep. Draco tells her about this portal and she determines to find it. She researches and discovers that the portal appears every 4 years in somewhere in Dublin. The day and the location in Dublin are always changing, but once you enter, you must leave before the day is over, otherwise you get stuck in there until the portal opens again. Four years later, Ginny enters the portal, but does not come back out. Draco then makes it his mission to rescue her.

The excerpt I showed above is, like always, unbetaed until I finish the chapter, but yeah. That's all I have thus far.

Again, any ideas for the title, or your thoughts on what I have would be greatly appreciated. :D

Happy New Year everyone! :D

Oohh, sounds dark (writing-style-wise) and exciting. I like it! Also what an awesome premise. I'LL FINISH MY FICS IF YOU FINISH THIS, PLZ. :D I suck at titles, sorry. Though I like the title "Into the Sea of Waking Dreams"...or not? Yeah, okay, maybe a tiny bit pretentious. This kind of makes me think of Narnia/Voyage of the Dawn Treader, when they rescue that one dude from that freaky island where all dreams come true.

And I'm sorry you fell ill right on New Year's Eve, I hope you had a nice one anyway, and that you get well soon. :( :)

Oh man I am all over the place. (I blame the mojitos.) Happy New Year! :D

Thanks! I came up with the idea at two a.m. for one of my friends -- he needed a premise for his creative writing class and I happened to be thinking about Neil Gaiman's Sandman series when I thought of it, only things from the series weren't going to be included. He ended up not using the premise, but I liked it enough to want to write it out. And don't worry; I'll finish this story. I'll finish all of my chaptered stuff (eventually...).

See, I like the title you suggested, too, but there's a D/G with the name "Sea of Waking Dreams" out there already that supposed to be amazing, so I'm probably not going to end up using it. XD Thanks for the suggestion, though!!

And yes; I had a nice, relaxing New Years with my parents. My mom made me a Screwdriver (a couple, actually...) and her and I watched Prince Caspian as I drooled over Ben Barnes and Skandar Keynes. :P Happy New Year to you, too! :D

Aw damn, I remember "Sea of Waking Dreams"...and yes, it IS an amazing fic. One of the first I ever read when I first got into HP fanfiction, in fact. :D

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. :P Good luck!

I've never read "Sea of Waking Dreams", but I suppose I should. My only problem is that I have to be in the mood to read angst/drama or else I can't really enjoy the story.

And thanks! :D
