[music| "Mark Ronson in Studio" - Mark Ronson & Santogold]

Let's get the rage out of the way first:

My mom sent me pictures of my 3 year-old cousin, Victoria, after her Disney princess makeover today. I got the pictures on my cell phone while I was in the car with my aunt and my Nana, driving down Rodeo Drive (more about that in a bit). My Nana was in the backseat and was acting practically non-existent, so I completely forgot that she was there. I showed my aunt the pictures and I neglected to show my Nana the pictures. My mistake, of course, but she doesn't even say anything about it. Doesn't ask me if she can see them until my aunt asks her what's wrong and my Nana just goes off on my aunt and I about how we ignore her and are completely disrespectful of her. HOW THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THIS IF YOU NEVER SAY ANYTHING TO US? She doesn't contribute to any conversation and, really, the only time she speaks to anyone is when she has to ask them to fetch something for her. Anytime she's in a room, or is around others, she mopes and just sits there. I apologized for what I did and tried to show her the pictures, but she got all stubborn and refused to look at them. She just doesn't do anything anymore. It's kind of sad, too, because she used to be such an active and vibrant person, but now; if she's not doing anything all day, she won't shower and she won't change out of her pajamas.

ERGH. I dunno. I recognize that I was in the wrong, but still. It just bothers me, in addition to other things that my grandmother has a tendency of doing.

Now. Fashion fangirling:

I DROVE DOWN FUCKING RODEO DRIVE TODAY. Not even gonna lie, I jizzed in my effing pants. I couldn't walk around because my Nana was with me and she didn't want to get out of the car and walk, so my aunt promised me that we would drive down there again and walk around. But either way, just seeing all of those stores made me squeal on the inside. I mean, I would've done it in real life, but yeah. Did want to act even more like a dork in front of the fam.

And excitement! Because I'm going to see Star Trek again tonight! But in IMAX! I cannot wait to see my future husband Zachary Quinto/Spock on the IMAX screen. It shall be epic. :D

Story time! (And only because it just hit me last night, which brought on so many lolz.)

So a couple of weeks ago, I met one of Nicole's friends from high school, Dominic. He's graduating this year from high school and he was in Tampa for States competition for Thespians (theater kid, like Nicole). Anywho, we meet up with him at a local mall (a really nice local mall) and it's me, Nicole, her boyfriend, Christian, and Dominic. And Dom is an absolute sweetheart/really cool kid and, at one point, I'm walking along with Nicole and Christian behind me, when Dom catches up to me by doing, like, this high double switch kick thing, which makes me laugh. We start talking, when all of a sudden he tells me to start walking, but placing one foot exactly in front of the other, looking as though I was strutting. THEN HE STARTS DOING IT, TOO.

I was thinking about the end of my freshman year randomly last night, when that moment popped into my head and all of a sudden it hit me. You know that whole, life imitating art thing? Yeah, well, I just had a moment that could've been straight out of Theories on How Danger Finds Us. Which is funny because I'm also a redhead, like Ginny, and Dom would TOTALLY be Blaise in that instance.

I had a nice little chuckle to myself after I realized that. XD I'm a dork; I know.

In other news, I LITERALLY JUST GOT MY PROMPT FOR THE D/G FIC EXCHANGE. It was my second choice. :( I usually get my first, but oh well. I have a feeling that this one is going to be a bit harder for me, but I have some interesting ideas. I'm just hoping that I can put a new twist on something that's been done before and by an author I really respect in the fandom. :/

So I'm curious: does anyone from LiveJournal have/or is interested in getting a Dreamwidth account?

The reasons why I have one are listed in my first Dreamwidth entry.

And, thus far, it's not too shabby. They don't have everything up and running yet (like they don't have a logged in home page), but because they apparently used the same code that LiveJournal uses, almost everything looks exactly like LJ.

If you want one, try logging in through OpenID and see if they give you one. If not, I can always request to get invite codes. :)

So I'm curious: does anyone have/or is interested in getting a Dreamwidth account?

I have one because I signed in to the website with OpenID and they sent me an invite code, which is the only way to currently get an account (unless you buy an account). I'm also interested in seeing if the fandoms that claim their going to make a mass exodus to the more "fandom friendly" Dreamwidth are actually going to go through with it.

Here's my Dreamwidth journal: mia_alexandria. It's pretty much the same premise as this one: real life and fandom stuff, but the user name is the ideal name that I would like for this journal.

Ideally, my username for this account would've been perfect for my LiveJournal, xalexandriam, but I obviously did not think of this until after the fact. Anyways, reasoning behind getting a Dreamwidth account:

» I'm interested in seeing if the amount of fandoms that claim they're making a mass exodus from LiveJournal to here actually follow through with that.
» I'm also interested in seeing if Dreamwidth's promise of more artistic freedom actually happens.
» I like the idea of having another place to cross-post/back up my LiveJournal entries.
» The invite code I got was free because I signed in through OpenID first. I can never say no to that, especially because so many people are clamoring to create one of these bad boys.

So, as more posts come along on either of my journals, I'll be updating. :D

I finished one paper, I have another one to go (that'll be so much easier to write), so I decided to reward myself by reccing some fics that I've been loving lately.

Oh, and, thanks to the efforts of both myself and the lovely Miss Rio, I have all of my prompts created for both the [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange and the [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest! :D All I have to say is: I will be greatly miffed if my prompt for the [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange is not executed properly (it's rather specific) and if one prompt, in particular, from the list of three I had to make for the [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest is not written in the way that I envisioned. Rio's decided that if either stories turn out not as awesome that I should just write the stories myself. XD

Anyways: Fic Recs! )

In my fanfic news, I haven't written anything for any of my fics since it's the end of the year and my last final is tomorrow. I'm going back home for the summer on Friday, so I should be able to write some more then, unless I get really wrapped up in writing for both of the exchanges (which, in all likelihood, will happen).

Enjoy!

Oh! And I got Skype! :D I had an 90 minute long video chat with my friend, Lisa, last night. It was awesome. :D

ETA: I just got back from picking up my final creative writing assignment. It had to be a short story and I was being lazy, so I decided to rework Office Christmas Party to suit my needs. First, I want to reiterate that my open letter in my last post is not at all a bash of the the overall [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange. They were just my initial thoughts to reading the entry the mods posted regarding the latest round of the exchange and, after a brief discussion with [livejournal.com profile] elyaeru in my post's comments, I've gained a better understanding of why the mods did what they did. Am I bummed that not everyone who wants to participate will be able to participate? Of course I am. But, again; it's their decision and not mine. To those of you signing up for the first time, I wish you the best of luck in getting a spot! ([livejournal.com profile] turkeyish, my fingers are double crossed for you! ♥)

Speaking of exchanges: OMG I DON'T KNOW WHAT I SHOULD REQUEST FOR THE [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange AND THE [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest. The ronpansy_fest doesn't have any specific theme, but it is my first time writing that ship, so I'm a bit nervous about it. :/ Plus, I have to come up with 3(?) possible prompts for that particular exchange...

Yeaaaahhh...

Now as to the topic of this post: I already told [livejournal.com profile] turkeyish about this and she had the same reaction that every one of my real life friends had, so I thought I would share with the rest of you guys.

My life is both hilarious and awkward. )

[music| "D.A.N.C.E.- Justice]

Dear [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange,

You and I have had a pretty good relationship in the two times that I've participated in your wonderful exchange of fic (and occasionally art). The first time was a bit of a rocky start, but hey; most relationships aren't always perfect. The second time around, however, I was confident in both my choice of prompt and the final result. What made it even better was that I was nominated 4 times. Four times! For it being my second time writing for an exchange of any kind, I was both honored and excited. I didn't win, but I was still happy to have produced a fic that people felt it had to be nominated and voted for.

I now approach my third round of your exchange and, up until this round's theme was announced, I was pretty excited. I've always loved the mods for the exchange and the layout they've created for this upcoming round is gorgeous. However, when I read the entry regarding this coming round and the new rules established, I became a bit concerned.

While I understand that people dropping out has always been a previous problem, I don't like the idea of limiting the amount of participants to 50. My policy on something like an exchange is that I don't sign up unless I know for certain that I will be able to participate. So, unless someone has a real life issue happen to them after they've signed up, I think it's silly for anyone to sign up if they know that they won't be able to stick to the time constraints. Not only that, but I feel that limiting the number of participants is a bit of a hindrance to the exchange. I'm the type of person that feels that if you want to participate, then you should be allowed to participate. By allowing past participants to sign up first before newbies is a disadvantage to the newbies, but I also think that just because you're a past participant doesn't mean that you produce fantastic products, or that there's a higher chance of you not dropping out (the latter may, or may not be true). Because, honestly, some of the fics by authors who have participated before aren't always the best ones. Or even ones that I personally enjoy. I feel that the fic produced may not be that author's personal best, but because of their name alone and the importance attached to their name that people adore it more.

I also have a bit of an issue with the theme. The theme itself asks for the author to think of a prompt that allows for an in depth look at the characters' respective psyches. If they can't, then oh well. And while I love the theories and concepts practiced in the field of psychology (hell, I wrote an entire fic about it), a vast majority of the stories I've read that features a character practicing in the field is usually more dramatic than humorous in nature. Of course I've seen fics that have a character acting as a psychologist that have been humorous, but well. I don't know. Rio and I feel that because it is the Spring Exchange that the theme should be a bit more light-hearted since it seems as though many authors might come up with fics in a more dramatic and/or angsty vein. I hope that I'm wrong, but it is a very likely possibility.

Please don't take this the wrong way, [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange. I still plan on signing up and (hopefully) participating, so just take my comments for what they are: comments. I did not write this to bash you or the mods for, like I said previous, I think they are fantastic and I have nothing but respect for them and all that they do. I hope that this round is absolutely amazing. :)

With love,

Drama-rama

Apr. 24th, 2009 02:41 pm
mia_alexandria: (Daily Show)
[mood| confused]
[music| "Let's Make Out" - Does Offend You, Yeah?]

Well now that some of the "drama" that was going on between me and Rio has been sorted out, some drama has been breaking out amongst my other friends. The cause of it all? I'll give you three guesses.

Done guessing?

I've you guessed "boys", then you would be correct!

Marissa's crazy jealous of Rio's boyfriend because Marissa claims that Rio's been spending way too much time with her boyfriend and not with Marissa. It's gotten to the point where Marissa can tell you what Rio has done on any given day, at any given time, for the past few weeks. She can't remember her own schedule that well, but she can sure as hell tell you what Rio was doing last Thursday and what time she was doing each activity. (My dad was all, "That's just creepy. D:") I've just stopped caring about it because I've been spazing out about finals (next week and I am DONE, bitches! :D), and if anyone feels the need to hang out with me, then they just call me or text me. No big deal, really.

So that's that whole shebang with Marissa and Rio.

My friend, Nicole, has been having some issues with her roommate giving her boyfriend grief. Nicole's boyfriend is an absolute sweetheart who would never intentionally hurt someone. And even if he did, he would apologize profusely for it. Like, I just don't see it in the guy to be a total douche bag. But, Nicole's roommate has somehow found a way to not like the guy. We've all narrowed it down to jealousy because Nicole's roommate has never had a boyfriend before (I mean, neither have I, but geez. I'm always happy for my friends when they get a new significant other. Unless, that SO turns the friend against me. But that is for another entry), and the roommate has somehow gotten it into her head that Nicole spends more time with her boyfriend that she does her roommate. I just feel really bad for both Nicole and her roommate. I feel bad for Nicole in that she has to deal with this in the last few weeks of school, especially since her roommate has started to bad mouth her boyfriend to their mutual friends. And I feel bad for the roommate because she's wrecking the really awesome friendship that her and Nicole had because of her jealousy.

It's things like this that make me wonder if it's even worth it to want a boyfriend. I mean, it would be nice and all, but honestly? I sure as shit do not want some fuckery to start up amongst my friends because of some guy. It's just not worth it. The friends that I've made at USF have become really close to me and it would just be stupid of me to throw all of those friendships away for some guy. I mean, I know that my friends who don't go to school with me would be genuinely happy because they're awesome like that, but the friends that I've made at USF seem more prone to jealousy. :/ That might be a problem...

OH! And news on the 5 Guy, Tree-Climbing Fortress of WTFuckery (yes; that's what I've named it): no, I haven't approached "Blond Boy" about it, although I did see him at lunch today. But, speaking of him, Rio and I have decided to rename him "Bear Grylls" for some very important reasons:
1) The boy is HOT, but his facial hair is getting a bit redonk. Not gonna lie. :/ It makes me wish for the days when he was clean-shaven and he could stop a conversation because of how gorgeous he looked (this actually happened to me and my friends. We were sitting down to eat when he walked by. We were talking and all conversation stopped because we just had to look at him).
2) He has an atladle. No joke.
3) It's rumored that he has killed one of the ducks that lives on campus and took it back to his dorm for some eatings. 0_o Not sure how I feel about this one...
4) He has a bow and arrow.
5) He has a knife holder attached to his pants at all times.
6) The boy's from Sarasota and there's about fuck all to do there. It's where Florida slowly goes from Miami-esque areas to cow country.

I told Rio that the next time we see him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him tearing through a fish he just caught.

[music| "Hoppipolla" - Sigur Ros]

Well, it wasn't really the entire day, more like the evening hours (especially a couple of moments in particular) that made me go, "What the ever-loving hell is going on here?"

So what had happened was myself, Rio, Marissa, Zach, and Juan all decided to go to the Meridian for a hookah night. All was fine and dandy as we sat there smoking and chatting about whatever came to mind. We discussed plans for USF HvZ since I'm the creator and Harbinger of Awesome for the game. :) It was a quiet night at the place, so not a lot of people were there. Which translates to, we were the loudest ones in the entire bar. Not that we cared, or anything, but there were just some points where I could've sworn that what little inhabitants there were were shooting ocular fire at us anytime we laughed. Which was a lot.

Anyways, fun was had at the Meridian as we plotted various shenanigans and around 1:30 am, we all decide to leave.

Rio, Marissa, and I all rode together in Marissa's car, but when we get back on campus, we decide to just hang out in Marissa's car for a bit before we went back inside our dorm. We're not really doing much in her car other than listening to the radio, when we notice this guy walking around a tree bordering the parking lot that we're in. We really don't think anything of it, other than, "What the fuck is this guy doing?" When, all of a sudden, this guy just DROPS OUT OF THE FUCKING TREE. What made it funny is that the guy that jumped down is this kid that I find attractive. We know his name, but for laughs we call him, "Blond Boy". It's kind of dark, so we didn't recognize him right away, but he steps forward in the direction of Marissa's car and the light hits him, so we all start laughing and flipping the fuck out. We then start to realize that he's staring at the car and three more guys jump down from the tree after him.

Keep in mind that it's 2 in the morning, so we're wondering, "Why were 4 or 5 guys in a tree at 2 am? Do they have some sort of tree house up there? Some club that they've formed that meets only in trees?" Important questions, I know.

It was one of those moments where I regret not leaping over Rio to get through the front door and running up to them to ask them why they were in a tree of all places at 2 am. I mean, I know it's college and all, so there's bound to be people up at all hours of the night. Hell, Marissa and I stayed up until 5 am that night just talking about random stuff. So I understand that people might want to hang out until whenever, especially because it was the weekend. But a TREE? Really?

I told Lauren about it the next day and she was just as confused as I was when I first saw it. We then decided that they've formed some club and they have drinks and snacks up there and the only time they meet is around 2 am every Sunday. If I see it again, I'm gonna fly by the seat of my pants, say, "To hell with it," and ask them about their tree antics.

Things to do before the semester ends:
» Write short story for Narration and Description. (Ideas? I'm kind of spent...)
» Study for Stats tests (test 4 and the final).
» Actually read the material for American Government. Specifically chapters 10, 11, and 13.
» Same goes for my Honors class...
» Try to get chapter 9 for Theories on How Danger Finds Us done.
» Email Melanie to let her know how my semester went (MAKE IT LENGTHY).

In other news, school is sucking the life out of me, I spoke at a seminar today on college survival skills and OWNED. I was the only one that was approached by high school kids afterward to answer more questions. :D It made me feel awesome.

And now I'm copying notes for a class, talking to Dan on AIM (I'M BAD. I KNOW), and doing general reading on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_twatlight.

Since I haven't heard anything yet from a friend of mine, should I spear head this coming to USF next year?

Discuss. :D

[EDIT] I talked to Nicole about it and she says, "No. Like only 5 people would play." :(

Also, thoughts on the models chosen for the May cover of Vogue to be "Faces of the Moment":
» Liya Kebede: No
» Natalia Vodianova: Not so much anymore
» Anna Jagodzinska: Yes
» Isabeli Fontana: Yes
» Lara Stone: Eh...kinda...
» Raquel Zimmerman: She's relevant, but not as popular as she used to be
» Caroline Trentini: Love her, but her career is not as strong as it used to be
» Natasha Poly: Yes, yes, 1000 times yes
» Jourdan Dunn: Yes

I don't think A. Dubs did enough research into the strength and relevancy of these models' careers.

Some models who I, personally, think should have been considered:
» As much as I can't stand her, Karlie Kloss with her bad runway walk
» Tanya Dzhileva
» Where the hell was Lily Donaldson? (Although she may have not been considered because she was on the models cover last year. Same goes for Sasha)
» Du Juan
» Ai Tominaga (She walked the most shows out of all of the models on that cover, save for Natasha and maybe Jourdan and Anna, this past season)
» Hanne Gaby Odiele
» Iris Strubegger (Although she sometimes resembles a man, she's starting to gain a lot of popularity
» Magdalena Frackowiak (She walked just as many shows as Natasha and is starting to get a lot of print work)

I understand that the industry is going through a phase where the older models are the thing right now, but honestly? Those models, as great as they may be, aren't a great representation of who's popular right now. [/EDIT]

Skimming through the entries on [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt just 'cause, I found this: Efron in May 2009 GQ

While many people who commented thought differently, I kinda liked the cover shot of him because of how much of a dork he looks with his cheesetastic smile. And, of course, after that, every other shot of him attempts to make him look like a oversexed, rugged bad ass. Which, frankly, kind of disconcerts me for a magazine called Gentleman's Quarterly. I dunno. Maybe this is how they get their female readers...?

Anywho, I also thought it was pretty funny how almost every word out of his mouth is "fuck". It just makes me want to pinch his cheek and coo, "Aww...That's so adorable how hard you're trying to break away from your squeaky clean Disney-made image!" While I understand that it's quite possible that his potty mouth is just as bad as mine, for someone like him, it borders on being insincere and sounding forced. Word of advice, Zacqueesha? Drop the f-bomb every once in a while, but not almost every other word, 'cause then you just sound silly and forced. Sound good? Awesome. :D

Anyways, at one point in our conversation, she says this: "It makes me so mad because, after taking a relatively fair amount of shit from a pretty nice guy [Lisa's ex-boyfriend], I have a violent allergic reaction to bullshit, in general."

I have a violent allergic reaction to bullshit is now officially my new favorite quote. I told Lisa that I plan on somehow integrating it into fanfic for my own nefarious purposes. I'm thinking for Theories on How Danger Finds Us? Y?/N?
