So I finally saw I Love You, Man today with my dad.

I Love You, Paul Rudd )

Other than that, I didn't really have a lot of thoughts about the movie. I thought it was funny, but personally, I thought that Paul Rudd's other big movie right now, Role Models, was way more awesome -- the references weren't always relevant, but they were more widely known (Kiss, Harry Potter (that Quidditch line gets me every time), etc.). Plus, I was laughing more, so I think that's always a sign as to how much I enjoy something.

Since it's transitioning into spring and all, I decided that it was time to lose the Slytherin-esque layout that I had (as much as I love Shalom Harlow), and switch it out for one that was more colorful and spring-like. The photos in the header are from an editorial in V Magazine, but I found them online at [livejournal.com profile] foto_decadent: Bloom. The template for the layout is from [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum: Template for Mixit. And the header is made by me. Hope you all like it. :)

Anyways, last night I saw the touring cast version of Legally Blonde The Musical with my friend, Genna. It was such a cute show. :D Omigod You Guys! )

First: Stats homework is no fun when sick. Especially when the wording of the textbook is so convoluted that the normal amount of brain hurting is amplified when groggy and stuffed up. La-ame. :(

Next: So. I have this idea for a D/G one-shot, but due to said congestion, I have no freaking clue how to start it. I have a specific scene in my head that I quite like, and I've thought of a couple of beginnings but, well. Nothing is suiting my tastes right now.

Scene That Is Stuck in My Mind )

Thirdly: Since I responded [livejournal.com profile] adelagia's entry about her response to the icon meme that's been going around LJ like the plague, I decided to play. :)

Icon Meme! )

Fourthly: Like a Boss by The Lonely Island. I have been patiently waiting for them to make a music video for this song every since I heard it on their album. SO. EPIC.

And, Lastly: Speaking of The Lonely Island, I watched Role Models online today (it was my second time seeing it. The line about Quidditch makes me laugh every time), and I completely forgot that Jorma was in it! He was acting like the spaz that he is; which just makes me love him even more. He even did bad karaoke in it! Even though he can actually sing pretty decently! He's my favorite. Hands down. :D

Also, I feel like I'm about to die, that's how sick I am. :( [/EDIT]

I think I might be getting sick. :( I feel all achy and whatnot.

At least I got some writing done! :D

Here's what I have so far: Snippet from Chapter 9 )

I have about two pages written thus far, and what I just posted is about a page and a half, so there's still more left that I have written. Oh, and no. I'm going to be evil and not translate the German. It will be translated when the chapter is complete and I have it posted on archives. :D

First: NEW POTTER PUPPET PALS!! SO MUCH WIN.

Second: So I'm making my way through "Milk" on Megavideo since the file that I rented off of iTunes is LAME and the video and sound parts don't match up. :( Anyways, I'm about 14 minutes into the movie when this happens: "BOYD?! SINCE WHEN WAS HE IN THIS MOVIE!?" And from the first time I saw him to when Megavideo stopped about 30 minutes in (that's so not 72 minutes. Those bastards), he was in EVERY SINGLE FREAKING SCENE. Not that I'm complaining, or anything. It's been ages since I've seen Boyd do anything noteworthy. I think the last time I saw him do anything in the world of modeling, it was an ad campaign for DSquared2 for F/W 2008 with Amber Valletta (am I the only one who doesn't understand why she's loved as a model? I don't think she's anything extraordinary...). And before that, he did some group ads with H&M, where the only other "big name" models in there were Isabeli Fontana and, maybe, Stella Tennant. Or was it Lakshimi Menon? Can't be sure. Maybe Natalia Vodianova? Hm...

Anyways, thoughts on the movie shall be forthcoming as soon as I finish watching it. :)

[EDIT] Chapter 8 is on Portkey. [/EDIT]

So I finished chapter 8 of Theories on How Danger Finds Us faster than I originally thought. Probably because I think where I ended it is rather appropriate and I didn't want this chapter to be redonkulously long, like it might have turned out to be if I wrote out all of the events. Much like chapter 7, chapter 8 seems to have turned out to be one of those chapters that just moves things along and sets the stage for some more important events.

I know pretty much exactly how I'm going to write out chapter 9, which is rather rare considering that I usually have just a vague idea of what I'm going to write in each chapter. Nope. Not this time. I know exactly what I want to write and how the events of the day are going to progress. Depending on how long Ginny's date with Gareth is once written, I might put her coming home in chapter 10. Maybe. I'm not sure yet.

Anyways, I've sent out chapter 8 to my beta, so, hopefully, she'll get it back to me as soon as possible. I'll post this chapter to Portkey tomorrow since I'm rather tired from writing and today's activities (ie. shopping. Wears a girl out, yo). I'll post the link to the chapter on Portkey and on FIA once they're on those archives.

In chapter 9, though, here are some things to look forward to: Gareth speaking German! Ginny gaining some insight into Gareth's family! and, possibly, Pansy, Blaise, and Draco being sneaky and listening into Ginny's conversation with Gareth once she gets back from her date! That last part might be in chapter 10, though. We'll see. :)

I still seem to redonkulously tired from Tally. :( I was able to sleep in today, but not for that long since I had class. Ugh. I can't wait until Easter next weekend so I can sleep in and be away from all of the stupidity I deal with in college. Seeing Lisa in Tally was the little bit of home I needed to keep me going for the rest of this week and for the entirety of next week if I decide to go home over the weekend. Which'll probably end up happening.

In other news, today is Prelims for WGI Nationals, an event that I've been going to for the past 4 years and not being in Ohio right now with a team saddens me a bit. :( But, I'm going to try out for USF's guard next year and, hopefully, I'll make it. :D

I decided to work on Theories on How Danger Finds Us before I drove up to Tallahassee today at 2 pm. :) This section gets a bit serious, but it doesn't stay that way for long and this chapter is far from finished. I have a lot more to go, so don't expect it for a while. Especially because I have three papers and some tests coming up before I'm done for the semester at the end of April. After that, I have the entire summer to relax and work on all of my stories some more (I haven't worked on The Prince or Every Season in ages! Plus! New round of the [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange!).

But, for now, I shall give you all a bit more of chapter 8: Some More of Chapter 8 )

[EDIT] I'M GOING TO THE CONCERT! :D [/EDIT]

So I'm considering driving up to Tallahassee to see The Ting Tings with my friend, Lisa.

Pros:

» I haven't seen Lisa in a long time, so it would be nice to spend some time with her.
» I've never been to Tallahassee (the Florida state capital) in the 19 years that I've been a Florida resident.
» Lisa's offered to not only pay for my ticket, but to give me lodging in her room for the night.
» It's not like I've driven for long periods of time by myself before. I normally drive the 3 and half hours down to my house in SoFla by myself all the time.
» I would LOVE to see The Ting Tings live. :D
» My 5pm American Government class has been canceled for this Tuesday! (It's a sign!)

Cons:

» I really don't want to drive the 4 hours to Tally.... XD
» The concert's on a Tuesday and I have class on Wednesday. (But at 12 pm!)
» My parents will probably be adverse to me going to Tally all by my onesie.
» I would have to avoid my friend, Dan, who goes to school in Tally for various reasons that are for another entry.

The pros outweigh the cons...

I still have to call my parents and ask them about it, especially since Lisa likes my parents and doesn't want to be on their bad side. :P

[music| "Supermodels (Theme from Popular)" - Kendall Payne]

So I stopped watching Buffy for a bit only because it became an absolute pain in the ass to try and watch it online. I had to find new links that weren't available on Surf the Channel and it just became this huge obnoxious effort to watch Buffy. So. My Buffy-fest has been put on hold until further notice. I've gotten through most of season 3, though, and I'm near the end, so that's good. And, ANYA'S FINALLY SHOWED UP! She's pretty much my favorite, so I was all excited when I was watching the episode about her intro to Sunnydale and how she lost her demon powers and whatnot.

Anyhoodle, I was on Facebook and was prompted to do one of those stupid little lists that had been popping up on my homepage's news feed lately about picking your Top 5 favorite shows from childhood. I chose Freakazoid, Batman: the Animated Series, Popular, Looney Tunes, and Dexter's Laboratory; although, there were so many more that I could've chosen.

But, seeing Popular as one of my choices kicked up the urge to see if I could find the show on Surf the Channel. Lo and behold, I do and for the past week, that's all I've been watching.

And OMG. I completely forgot how much I loved that show! From the sheer brilliance of the plot lines, to the cast (Christopher Gorham as Harrison John is FREAKING ADORABLE and Leslie Grossman as Mary Cherry -- OH SWEET MERCIFUL JESUS. That woman is genius as Mary Cherry), I just could not believe how I had forgotten about that show. It also makes me incredibly upset that they canceled it after two seasons. I mean, sure; there were some unexplained plot holes (but so do a lot of shows), but the concepts that they talked about were fantastic for the teens that they were targeting (one of the main characters, Brooke, played by Leslie Bibb, for example, is recovering from anorexia nervosa throughout the show) and many of the characters were developed rather well and each had something about them that was relateable and, for some, likeable.

The whole premise is that two girls, Sam McPherson (Carly Pope) and Brooke McQueen (Leslie Bibb), are leaders of their own groups of friends (cliques, really) at opposite ends of the popularity spectrum in their L.A. high school. Sam is the editor-in-chief of her school's newspaper and is an aspiring journalist. Brooke is the co-captain of the cheerleading squad, the Glamazons, and a straight-A student dating the captain of football team, Josh Ford. Things between the two girls have always been bad, but they get worse when their parents (Sam's mom is a widower, Brooke's dad is a divorcee) decide to get married. From there on, your basic shenanigans and drama filled with a good dose of teen angst occur as the two groups fight for supremacy in the school. I like it so much because the characters realize when they're at fault, especially Sam and Brooke, or keep up their self-righteousness until they screw up big time, forcing them to see the err of their ways. The show's not perfect (again, things like people not dating from one show to the next without explanation as to why they are not longer together), but it's entertaining and watching it this past week has made me realize why I like it so much.

And I just have to say this because I was laughing manically throughout, but I watched the episode, "All About Adam", today, guest starring Wentworth Miller as Adam, this con-artist out to destroy the cheerleading squad due to some hating on him by a cheerleader back in his Texas hometown. And due to the fact that [livejournal.com profile] _____faith uses Wentworth Miller as Blaise in her HP manips, the only thing I could think of was, "OMG. BLAISE. BLAISE. BLAISE," because EVERYTHING from the mannerisms, to the way he spoke, to the way he dressed, to his plotting reminded me so much of how I've always pictured (and try to write) Blaise to be. This also reminded me of how much of a dork I am. XD

But yeah. I just thought I'd share the love.

Meh. There's this Sadie Hawkins dance tonight thrown by my hall (an all-girls hall. What the hell? Do the RAs enjoy ostracizing us more so than we already are?) and I wasn't planning on going, but Nicole is all, "Oh, I have to go 'cause I'm a mayor (we have mayors and senators and shtuff to represent each floor) and I want you to come with me to prevent me from going crazy." And so I'm going, but, hopefully, only for about 15 to 30 minutes and then I'm booking it out of there. No one (and I mean, NO ONE) from the hall is going and the RAs have been scrambling to get their residents to come out.

So I'm probably going to take a nap before that since I really don't care about going.

So I'm almost done registering for my classes for next fall. I'm taking Basic Economics (again. I'm an epic fail at online classes), Intro to Urban Politics and Government, an Honors class about evolution, and some other Honors class. I tried to sign up for the other Honors class that I originally wanted which was about Australia, taught by this Australian dude, but by the time I was able to sign up, it was GONE. :( And today is the first day that ANYONE is allowed to sign up for classes for next fall. Plus, not everyone is allowed to sign up on the first day -- seniors and Honors kids get top priority before anyone else, so I get to register before all of my friends do. I hope I signed up for the class about Korea instead because all of the other ones are about the Middle East and while I don't mind learning about it, those classes aren't my top preference. And what sucks even more is that the Honors website is down so I can't even check which class I signed up for. :( I have to sign up for French tomorrow, though, since I had to get a permit to take freaking French I. I dunno.

Anywho, I had to take a break from Twilight because there's only so much I can handle and there's only so much soothing RPattz! is able to provide visually. I told Erin that I forgot how many awful lines there were in that movie (which is rather sad, considering that the screenplay writer got nominated for two Emmys for her work on Dexter, I believe), not to mention the fact that Kristen Stewart is practically deadpan for the ENTIRE FREAKING FILM!

Blergh. I'm getting tired and I need to take a shower. And it's only 9:03. Not cool.

[music| "Dreamgirl" - The Lonely Island]

First off, I finally got The Lonely Island CD from one of my friends and that's all I've been listening to because it's so epic. What's even better is that my friend, Nicole, has been joining me in singing much of the CD throughout the day. It's so hard to choose a favorite because they're all amazing in their own special way. I just love "Dreamgirl" for the fact that they have Norah Jones do the chorus and bust into a random chorus about Chex Mix. So, so great. :D

Also, I got back from my spring break today. I went to the Florida Keys with some friends of mine. It was a lot of fun. :D More about that later.

And I'm forcing myself through the Twilight DVD tonight simply because my friend, Erin, told me that RPatz! does commentary on the movie and it's supposed to be amazing. I'm super excited! :D

I wrote about two more paragraphs for chapter 8 of Theories on How Danger Finds Us! I'll probably write some more tonight since there's no dialogue yet, just Ginny narrating, but I like what I've written so far for this chapter and I've probably had just as much fun writing this chapter as I did chapter 1. And that's a very good thing. :)

And now, a to-do list:

» Register for Fall 2009 classes tomorrow at 3:30 pm.
» Call to get permit for French 1.
» Work on Basic Statistics review before my test on Wednesday.
» Finish reading The History of Sexuality.
» Read article for Contemporary Social Problems.
» Finish writing character sketch for Narrative and Description. (Posting what I have now! :D)

I've just been a lean, mean writing machine for Theories these past few days. If only the same could be said for the some odd other fics I have sitting in WIP limbo right now. I really should work on one fic at a time. Pfft. Like that's every going to happen. XD

Anyways, I've written a little over a page for chapter 8 and I'm probably going to write some more before I go to bed. And for some odd reason, there's a crap-load of parenthetical remarks in this chapter thus far. I don't know why, it just worked out that way. I guess Ginny had a lot to say that could only be conveyed in parenthesis.

I mean the setup of their site is awesome, but there's some stuff on there that's just a grammatical hot mess). Oh, and I forgot to mention that for my last creative writing assignment, I just took bits from Through a Long and Sleepless Night, chapters 1 and 2, changed the names and certain details, and combined them into this 6 page assignment since I was lazy and didn't feel like writing something new. I got a B- on it. XD

I thought that was pretty funny. :P And maybe it's a form of karma for doing the assignment half-assed.

Dear Karl Lagerfeld, a.k.a. The Kaiser,

I love you. I honestly do. You're just a bundle of fantastical, German, Chanel-designing awesomeness. While I sometimes question the choices you make when designing clothing for both the Chanel lines and your self-named line, I appreciate the attention to detail to use with all of your creations. Plus, you dress awesomely for a man your age. Not many men in their seventies can pull off the look that you've created for yourself, but you rock it like it's nobody's business. So, congrats.

Anyways, I decided to take a break from reading the April 2009 issue of Vanity Fair (kudos to Graydon Carter and everyone else at Vanity Fair for choosing the comedians that you did and photographing them the way that you did for this month's issue. My friends who don't normally read your magazine are now clamoring for a copy of their own) to head on over to Style.com for a look-see at the latest stuff from Paris. I've fallen behind a bit in keeping tabs on Fashion Week due to school and whatnot, hence the lack of fashion letters. I shall rectify this during my spring break next week, however. But, more to the point, I click on the link to watch the slideshow of your show for Fall/Winter 2009 Ready-to-Wear for your Karl Lagerfeld collection.

My thoughts proceed as follows: Ok. Some cool stuff here. A bit of biker chic, which I've come to expect considering how Karl Lagerfeld dresses. Fur encrusted, I guess, motorcycle helmets? Interesting. Earrings that look like those huge-ass headphones, only jewel-encrusted? Even more interesting. Hm, stuff that vaguely resembles something that Maison Martin Margiela produced a season ago. And LOTS OF FINGERLESS GLOVES.

Did you read that last part, Karl? LOTS OF FINGERLESS GLOVES. I understand that you have a penchant for wearing fingerless gloves and you know what? That's great. Like I said before, you have a style that doesn't work for a lot of people, but you work it like it's going out of style. "Going out of style" is how I feel about those fingerless gloves. And, again, I get the fact that your Karl Lagerfeld line is pretty much a translation of what you would wear if you were a woman, or if Hedi Slimane were a woman, but really? It's one thing to have fingerless gloves in the style that you're apt to wear, but it crosses a very thin line when you make FINGERLESS OPERA GLOVES. What woman in her right mind is going to show up to a formal/red carpet event rocking some bitchin' gown and FINGERLESS OPERA GLOVES? Unless it's someone like Mischa Barton or Lindsay Lohan, I HIGHLY doubt anyone would. But then again, Mischa and Lindsay aren't really in their right minds, are they? I might have a coronary if I see A.Dubs put them in the next issue of Vogue. Although Carine Roitfield might, if only to rub it in Anna Wintour's face how "daring and edgy" Vogue Paris is. (I love US Vogue, but let's face it: I see a lot of the same things from a lot of the same designers on the same models. And while they are usually both designers and models that I love, it gets kind of predicable after a while. Plus US Vogue needs some Tim Walker in its life.)

So. To end this, I would like to say that when you start creating your Karl Lagerfeld Ready-to-Wear collection for Spring/Summer 2010, design as though you have Tim Gunn near you saying wise words such as, "That's a whole lot of look," or, "Edit, edit, edit," or, my personal favorite, "DON'T BORE NINA".

With love,

Mia
